South African Booksellers Association represents the retail book industry in South Africa. It strives to assist its members by:
  • Providing access and disseminating industry information.
  • Considering, coordinating and promoting the interests of booksellers and the trade as a whole.
  • Liaising with government departments to ensure that methods of supply serve the interests of the departments, booksellers and the learners.
  • Support government initiatives in promoting a literate nation and inculcating a culture of reading.
  • Keeping them informed and improving co-operation and the communication among them.
  • Promoting and encouraging small business development to grow a vibrant retail book trade.
  • Bringing booksellers from around the country together annually to discuss matters of general interest.
  • Collecting statistics and doing research for the benefit of members.
  • Working with the Publishers’ Association of South Africa (PASA) to encourage healthy trade relations which recognise the respective roles within the book value chain, of the publishers as creators and wholesale distributors, and booksellers as the retailers of books.
SA Booksellers is a member of the South African Book Development Council (SABDC), the Pan African Booksellers’ Association (PABA), the International Booksellers’ Federation (IBF) and the organising committee of World Book Day.
Bookmark, the official magazine of SA Booksellers, is distributed free of charge to all members as well as to all influential people in the book trade from publishers to government departments. This magazine is the mouthpiece for members as much as it is a source of invaluable information. Send a letter to the editor at bookmark@sabooksellers.com to get your views published or to get added to the digital edition distribution list.
