The South African Book Fair (previously known as Cape Town Book Fair) is back! The Fair will be held in Cape Town from 13 to 15 June 2014 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

The PASA General Council decided, on 13 November 2013, to implement the name change before the upcoming 2014 Book Fair. A decision to change the name of the event from Cape Town Book Fair to South African Book Fair was taken at the PASA Quarterly Meeting in February 2013. PASA decided on the name change to ensure that South Africans reclaimed the ownership and had access to the Book Fair. In practical terms, the decision makes it possible for the event to be staged at any major cities in the country. From 2014, the South African Book Fair will become an annual event alternating between Cape Town and Johannesburg. This means, in 2014 the Book Fair will take place in Cape Town while the following year, 2015, it will be staged in Johannesburg or Jozi as its inhabitants prefer to call it.

The new Board of Directors of the South African Book Fair was instituted in August 2013. Members of the Board are Brian Wafawarowa (Chairperson), Mandla Balisa, Veronica Klipp and Mpuka Radinku (Executive Director). A very productive and pragmatic committee to guide the 2014 preparations and implementation of the Book Fair, known as the South African Book Fair Committee, was established and its members include Eugene Ashton (Trade sector), Lourens Kruger (Education sector), Veronica Klipp (Higher Education sector), Brian Wafawarowa (Advisor) and Mpuka Radinku (PASA Office).

The 2014 South African Book Fair in Cape Town will be a public and trade fair whose main focus will be to attract an ambitious 30 000 – 50 000 visitors. The aim is to maintain the standard of the South African Book Fair as the premier event in the country’s literary calendar that compares favourably with the best internationally. To achieve this goal, we have retained the service of the reliable and competent Thebe Reed Exhibitions as organisers, led by the new General Manager, Lynn Chamier. The Book Fair Committee assisted greatly with the appointment of a programme director, Batya Bricker-Green, whose task is to put together a very attractive and exciting Book Fair programme to ensure that exhibitors and the South African public get their money’s worth.
